Hello and Welcome back Dragons!!
The sun's come out in the start of a beautiful Summer term, the campus is blooming into life and, arguably more important than all that nature stuff, the Ultimate Frisbee outdoor season is ready to roll!! Below you can find all the training details for this term, as well as some special events for Summer 2009!
Training this term:
- Thursday 7-9pm outdoor (replaced Tues indoor training sessions) - Please note: WEEK 1 time changed to 6-8pm. - Sunday 2-4pm outdoor Please note that starting this term, training will begin AT the start time shown: you need to be there, booted up, ready to go and have chucked a disc around for a bit before that time, so please arrive 10-15 minutes early.
New committee: The new committee (Alex, Ginge, Kim, Billy, Ania and Lawrence) are now 'in office' and will running things from now onwards. Don't hesitate to talk to them about anything Dragons or Ultimate related!
Wingin' It less that 2 weeks away! Our tournament is 2-4th May. There's still a bit of space on the two Dragons' teams if you want to sign up; don't worry if you haven't played in a tournament before, it'll be a relaxed affair!

It'll be on campus, on the grass between the Athletics Pavilion and Windsor Halls. If you're interested and available, even if only for part of it, please come along! And please let oli (swr04ojb@rdg.ac.uk) know in advance.
Other Events this term: 1. Wingin' It! (Sat 2nd/Sun 3rd of May)... ...closely followed by a day-trip to the beach on bank holiday Monday!(details to come) 2. The Dragons sent a team to compete at this years tournament in Roehampton on the 21st/22nd May. The team finished a respectable ninth place out of twenty(?) teams, being unbeated on Sunday. This was particulary impressive given the rather messy night at the party on Saturday. Big thankyou to our mates at RUF for a great tournament!
Players: Alex Tinsley, James Rudge, Mark Bignal, Dan Godbold, Steve Gordon, Billy Coburn, Tereza Menclova, Sam Gunbie, Lawrence Ramsay and Mike Bellew.

Mxed Indoor Regionals (17th Jan) - The dragons travelled up to Hatfield to take part in the south east indoor mixed regional's tournament. We drew for the spirit prize with the Mohawks (who were awarded the prize based upon position) although they decided to share it with us! The team consisted of; Ania, Kim, Heather, Tereza, Alex, Billy, Dan, Mark, Petch. We also had the support of Steve on the day as well.
South East Uni Outdoors (31st Jan/1st Feb) - This took place at Chichester University, with the dragons taking a mixed team with between eight and nine players for the whole weekend. This meant only one sub was available at times, making it fairly tricky for the competition. Fun was had by all despite the cold (and snow)!
Lemmington Luau (21st and 22nd Feb) - This consisted of two one-day tournaments. The saturday team consisted of Mark, Lawrence, Billy, Ginge, Tom and Tereza. They played amazingly well, achieving ninth position and winning the plate! On sunday the team consisted of Mark, Billy, Tom, Ginge, Bum, Petch and Paul Holden. Again the team played fantastically well, coming seventh overall.

The dragons made a fantastic start to the new year with a plate win at frostbite '09. This tournament took place in chilly Poole at the weekend, and was the first time the dragons have played on sand as a team. Having suffered a bit of a slow start being beaten by the eventual tournament winners "milf", the dragons soon got the hand of the new surface and were able to pull back several draws and hard fought wins to finish 9th out of the 16 teams that entered. This was a one day event, leaving us with no party shenanigans to report on. The pictures below show the plate that was received and hopefully more photo's will be put online later this week. |
